Halfway Through Summer

7/9/2026

Hi. It’s been a little while. I’m still trying to get into the groove of writing a blog. Right now, my life isn’t as exciting as it could be. I was planning a mostly lazy summer. The most I will share are my artsy endeavors and small happenings in life. Who knows, maybe I’ll create different categories of blogs if I get the hang of this.

As I’m writing this, the temperature has reached the high 90s (Fahrenheit). Apparently, a heatwave has hit a good chunk of the US. I’m lucky enough to not get hit by it, but it’s still SO hot in my town. My message to everyone reading this is to stay hydrated and keep yourself as cool as possible. Heat exhaustion is not something to play with and you should take care of yourselves. I haven’t checked the news lately, but I sure hope these temperatures can go as soon as they came. The only upside is that I have a good excuse to stay indoors this season. This is why I prefer Fall-Winter over Spring-Summer...

Since we’re in hot weather right now, I’ve been considering trying a new dish called, “Oi-Naengguk” also known as, “Chilled Cucumber Soup”. It's a korean soup made from cucumbers, ice, water, soy sauce, fish sauce, tomatoes, etc. I heard about it through a KDrama I recently watched called, “Doom at Your Service”. It sounded so good when a character mentioned it to get through the heat. I already found a recipe so when I get the chance to make it, I'll give an honest review.

Speaking of reviews, I'll also share some of my thoughts about the drama. The start of the show is so good. From time to time this series reminded me of “Goblin: The Lonely and Great God”. I was digging the premise and the main character felt very relatable. I also appreciated that her and the male lead became a couple in the middle of the season however, it didn’t feel natural. Sadly, I had to drop the show because the rest of it just wasn’t for me. I felt like the season just ran for a little too long but that's just me.

Moving on, I’d like to briefly talk about my experience watching “Obsession” by myself in the movie theatres. Just a month ago, I bought a ticket and watched it in what I presumed to be an empty theatre. Unfortunately(?), there were more people packing in. I bought tickets online, so I thought it was just going to be me and one other person, but I’m assuming the other viewers that have shown up bought tickets on the fly. I said "unfortunately" earlier because most of the people that came in were talking throughout the film, and it was distracting... But I guess it was also good for my scary self, since it helped me get through the more bone-chilling scenes. When the movie ended, I gave myself a pat on the back for getting through it by myself either way. I think I’m the only one in my household who is willing to sit through a horror movie that’s on the big screen.

I want to further discuss the film so the next section will be spoilers. Please avoid them if you haven’t seen it and would like to watch without spoilers. Thank you so much for reading this entry. There will be more to come! See you later.

I’d like more movies to depict the “nice guy” in this nature. In my humble opinion, more people should understand that not every nice guy is a true nice guy. There are some folks that will take on this persona so the individual they admire would end up trusting them, and when that happens the mask will fall and they will start treating their object of admiration with disrepect, because they didn’t get what they imagined from them. It’s a sad reality that not a lot of folks are familiar with. I know it’s a tricky topic, but it’s very real. I would appreciate more awareness around this type of thing. That’s why it was interesting to see the discourse around this film. It reveals the split between those who can see the red flags a mile away, and those not familiar with them. Overall, it was very good, and I wish I saw it in theatres a second time. This is the kind of movie that's filled with multiple hidden details you don't notice on the first watch.
